THE MAGNETIC DOT ENCYCLOPEDIA

Core Connected Buckyball / C60 Fullerene Like

by: ledwatchman Follow

Large model of a buckminsterfullerene molecule. The 60 little golden spheres around the outside form the C60, and are interconnected with spacers representing the atomic bonds. Extra internal supports and bonds were necessary for the structure to stand up, which are not parts of a true buckyball.

The core and outer pieces I used to make the buckyball. 12 of the outer pieces connected to the core and one another form the big C60 fullerene. All connections had to be in parallel not interlocked to make the right structure, so the model is not very stable, it collapsed on several attempts before I got it to work, but it does stand up nicely once completed.

Oh yea, now that's breathtaking! I'm expanding my magnet sphere collecting every single day, and one day soon I'll be able to match your designs in size my friend! Muahahaha!!!
This is a really really nice build! I'm extremely grateful for your post both here and on YouTube (where I found this build originally)
I give you 5/5 stars for this one!
