Huge Isometric Hollow Cube Like

by: waynehjr1 Follow

OMG..is this thing heavy O.o Also another hinderence with this build is that my recent order of Nickel plated dots had mismatched dots. out of 30 sets of what should have been 5mm 14 sets were actually 4.8mm. You might think that isn't much of a difference, but believe me on bigger builds that depend on even sides/surfaces...it become a hassle if you mix and match sizes. You can see some distortion in this piece. I used the worse one for the 6x6 spacers so at least the long runs would stay somewhat straight and even...lol.

As you can see here...(which technically was my very first build with these new dots), I wasn't very happy with the way they formed this cube....lol. Not exactly smooth & flat sides/surfaces o.O.

Here is where uploaded pictures of me the day I got them and opened them all...lol:

I'm ridiculously jealous of your collection. What a beast!

Thanks... My best ones are my last edition of 5 sets each of Gold, Silver, Black, Red(polymer), Yellow(polymer) & Black(polymer). These are really even size wise except the Black(polymer) is a tad bigger than the rest, which isn't bad because they are all the same size. I keep these up in plastic right now(when not in use). The 30 sets of nickel o.O OMG...live and learn...I got a deal, but the size variance is pathedic, so good for practice etc. I actually think these nickel plated were seconds or something as I have found many dented and even a few with cut marks in them o.O. Like I said though got a deal on them and they do work...lol.

Once they get mixed up it is hard to separate the larger from the smaller since they are all the same color. I do have the majority of 5mm separated and keep track of where I use them in a build though..lol. Someday I'll reorder from a reliable source like I did with the last set of colored.

Overall though...it is good to have enough to actually do the bigger builds now xD :)

I know about that mixing problem! And the size variance. My colored ones faded, and had size issues, so I replaced all with (I guess nickel) and specified "same batch" on the order. Now I just have lots of silver ones, since i gave the others away. I love the smaller blue and purple and green cube at the back

Specifying 'same batch' should work, didn't think of that. Not sure if I could have with my nickel order, it was basically like a private type sale on Alibaba, but the price was really cheap. In hindsight I think I know why...lol. This last order was from an actual company and all six colors were same size for each of their 5 sets. Going to save up again and try another 30 sets from this last company I just got the colored from, I still keep these other nickels for practice and experimenting...lol., and use the good ones for actual builds for show.

I got fifty sets at about $9 a piece that way (through alibab). They were about the cheapest there, but there were some reasonable comments. I think you shouldn't trust the 'silver' and 'gold' supplier ratings ... I read somewhere that they are bought. I dont think i'm supposed to name other suppliers here, but you will see my name in the comments of the guy I went to.

You definitely get what you pay for. Btw just to add, this would make a much more intriguing rendition of the transformers allspark :)
